What I’m currently reading…
Judge Dredd Year One
I know these 2000AD novels aren’t what you would call mainstream reads for book lovers, since their origins were established in comics, but I love this world. So I’m indulging myself.
Street Freaks by Terry Brooks (2018)
I was quite jazzed about this book for the first couple of chapters, I thought there was a lot of potential for the world and happenings within it. Unfortunately, things went downhill incredibly quickly.
Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear (2015)
Ok, another book I have a love-hate relationship with.
But don't get me wrong, this is a good book. It has an interesting cast of characters, an intriguing location and a really nice flow to the story.
Dune by Frank Herbert (1965)
All the good things you've heard about this book are true.
All the negative things you've heard are greatly exaggerated.
Judge Anderson by Alec Worley (2017)
This book delivers exactly what was expected, a whole lot of fun.
Fourth Quarter Book Recommendation 2022
The Picture of Dorian Gray, I can hear you thinking, is the second 19th-century book I've suggested this year. But I assure you, it very much deserves your attention.
Jade City by Fonda Lee (2017)
Well, I'm afraid that's it."Game over, man. Game over!"
I pushed myself as far as I could but I just have to call it quits.
The Humans by Matt Haig (2013)
Firstly, and simply, what a fantastic read.
I wonder if Matt Haig was a fan of Mork & Mindy from way back in the day, as the main character here constantly made me think of Mork in that show.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wild (1890)
I definitely have a passion for this kind of classic prose. I find such delight in the guarded nature of the language's frankness. I love the way such blunt conversations can be carried out in such an inoffensive manner
Judges Volume One by Michael Carroll; Charles J Eskew; George Mann (2019)
Oh man, this took me back!
I was 10 years old back in 1977 when the heavily anticipated 2000AD Progs hit news-stands for the very first time, and the following years and Progs had a massive impact on me.
Blackbirds by Chuck Wendig (2012)
I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with this book, or more accurately the characters, but I think I was supposed to. They are all pretty nasty buggers.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman (2001)
I suppose I should start this review with the fact that I did not finish this book, sorry diehard Gaiman fans. Actually, the truth is, I couldn't finish it
The Last Town by Blake Crouch (2014)
Ok, this is a strange way to start, and end, a review, but here goes...
This is a great read that I was disappointed with. Let me explain.
