Dune by Frank Herbert (1965)
Book cover blurb
Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for...
When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. And as he evolves into the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib, he will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.

My Review
All the good things you've heard about this book are true.
All the negative things you've heard are greatly exaggerated.
This would have been a five-star book, if not for a section around three-quarters in that screwed the flow and consistent pace, pitching me right out of the zen-like state I found myself in while reading Dune.
I genuinely feel it would be impossible to write a review of this classic book from a single read and offer something different from the thousands of other reviews out there. But, I did very much enjoy this book and in the hope of creating a justifiable review, I plan to read it again in the near future. Focusing my reading solely on writing a review.
